After what seemed like a long time, Quantum has finally released the new Quantum Cabo PTs Spinning Reels. I first laid eyes on these saltwater powerhouses at ICAST over the summer. The first thing that I was told was that they were redesigned from the ground up and are totally different reels from their predecessors but that Quantum kept the Cabo name for continuity.
The new Cabos are everything the old Cabos were but better. If you have never fished a Cabo before, you should know that they used to come in sizes 20-80 and were designed specifically for saltwater fishing. The new models are only available in sizes 40-80 and include many improvements. Better waterproof drag system, better corrosion resistant coating, better bail system, better handle and a smoother fishing experience due to 8 stainless steel ball bearings.
If you are in the market for a really nice saltwater fishing reel then the Quantum Cabo PTs has to be on your list. It’s main competitors are the Shimano Saragosa, Daiwa Saltist Spinning Reels, Penn Spinfisher V Spinning Reels, and the Okuma Cedros Spinning Reels. These are reels that are close in price and close in technology.
The more I play with the Quantum, the more I like it. If you are in the store ask to see one of them or check out our video reviews. I have included the ones for the CSP60PTSD and the CSP80PTSD in this post. You can also see them on the Quantum Cabo PTs Spinning Reels on our web site or on our YouTube Channel. When Quantum releases the 40s and the 50s I will do video reviews of them as well.
