While at ICAST I got a chance to check out the upcoming Stormr Men’s Surf Top. This top is really nice. Stormr has been doing really great things with neoprene technology and this surf top is the next evolution of their line. It has all the bells and whistles of a high end surf top and will deliver on performance.
The Stormr Surf Top is constructed of high stretch neoprene and doesn’t have that heavy, bulky feel of older neoprene surf tops. It is still a warm top, and has some weight to it but you can feel the modernity to it. The jacket is waterproof and windproof. As with all Stormr products, all seams are glued, blind-stitched and thermal taped to insure that water will not penetrate them.
On the front is a giant pocket that goes the width of the top with a velcro closure. Stormr also only stitched the top and bottom of the pocket to the jacket, leaving an opening on both sides for a kangaroo style hand warmer pocket. This is similar to what you would find on a pullover hoodie.
The hood is adjustable and has a fleece lining for comfort. There is a neoprene neck gasket to keep water out. The external cuffs have a velcro closure and the inner cuffs are tapered neoprene. If you find that the inner cuffs are not wide enough for your wrists, you can actually cut off a little bit. The stitching will not come loose. At the waist there is a a two-way adjustable seal that works as it should.
There are a lot of high end surf tops on the market now but I am really impressed with this one from Stormr. It is cut full so you don’t have to worry about it being too tight and it has all of the features you would want in a surf top that costs $250. I especially like The Dark Knight inspired black and gray color of this jacket. Anything that makes you look like Batman while fishing can’t be bad. OK, I’ve probably gone a little over the top with the Batman comparison. I’m a big Batman fan. What can I say?
If you are looking for a great surf top that will keep you warm and dry, then this is it. Stormr Men’s Surf Tops in sizes M-2XL will be available in early October but you can pre-order them now on our web site.
