The Penn Fathom FTH40 Star Drag Reel is the largest star drag reel in the updated Penn lineup, holding well over 500 yards of 80# braided line. The FTH40 has the same narrow design of its little brother the FTH25N, but with a much larger line capacity. The FTH40 can put the screws to hard charging pelagic species like tuna, sailfish, and wahoo thanks to the VersaDrag HT-100 system that puts out 25# of drag. A Live Spindle Design with a free floating spool makes tossing iron a breeze, and the Machine-cut marine grade bronze main gear is battle ready, eager to test out a blistering run of large game fish. The FTH40 has a high-speed 6:1 gear ratio, so jigging is an ideal application, but if big bottom fishing is your thing you can utilize the Penn Fathom FTH40 Star Drag Reel as a dual threat reel.

I bought the FTH12 for use alongside my Shimano Talica for bottom fishing. I use it when I don't need the insane power of 80 pound braid. I filled it with 30 pound braid and use it more now than I use my Talica. I get laughed at all the time by guys with their 9/0 senators grouper fishing and, I catch just as much as they do on this little powerhouse reel. I went on an overnight trip and I couldn't put it down. I paired it with the Sloopster SLJ66MH. It has plenty of power and handled everything from 2lb porgies to a 40lb amberjack that had to be released. Great job Penn.
