The Okuma Makaira. Just saying that name brings to mind images of marlin tail-walking across a sunsplashed Panamanian horizon. The Makaira 2 speed offshore reel is designed to compete with the best of the best – I’m talking the Tiagra, International, Avet EX and so on, at a MUCH better price point. Perhaps the folks at Okuma felt they needed to step their game up when they decided to team up with Tiburon Engineering to produce a next-generation big game reel. Whatever their reasons, the results are astounding! The Makaira 2 Speed boasts numerous amenities including Okuma’s patented Carbonite multi-layered drag system that puts the screws to blistering billfish, 4 (6 on the 80) ABEC-5 Sapporo stainless steel ball bearings, a custom designed thrust bearing to alleviate side load under extreme drag stress, heavy duty 17-4 stainless steel drive and spool shafts, and special helical cut gears for increased torque and improved gear meshing. If it swims, the Makaira can catch it - plain and simple.
Okuma Makaira 2 Speed offshore reels come with a patented spoon pin system to ensure it can handle either monofilament, or braided superline. The Makaira 2 speed comes in standard offshore sizes – 8, 10, 15, 20, 30, 50, and 80 – all available in wide models as well. Don’t let the price fool you, the Makaira is worth its weight in gold – and you’ll find out when smoothly cranking down on the fish of a lifetime.

Makaira 50II SEa Reels are a beast and Light weight idea for those long days on the Rail. I now have three Mak SEa reels my first a 15II I used to bring 125# Yellow FIn Tuna to the Rail and I just added a 20 and 50 for my upcoming L.R. Cow trip out of San Diego. The Mak-50 are impressive with 80# max drag and 65# at strike can rip the heads off fish when they hit your Lures. Setting my reel to 60# of drag it still has free spool a must for Live Bait fishing that allows you to apply max drag without busting your line these reels are super smooth. I found that out when adjusting the drags to 60# when the reel started to let out line there was no jerking and you can feel how smooth the line is going to peel off the reel. I will update my post after my up coming Cow trip and how the reel preformed.
Mak-15 are great reels and beast for there size. There is one thing that is a negative about these reels the slotted hole for installing the reel clamp studs. I feel the frame slotted holes need to be reengineered as half the slot is missing and will not allow you to slide the stud all the way to the outside to accommodate a Rod with a larger diameter. The slot is machined on the aluminum Frame with Half the slot is missing, if you slide the studs to the end they will angle in do to the studs riding on the black reel foot not on the frame slot. Like all the other Maks the 15-SEa II is a beast and I’ve caught 125# Yellow Fin Tuna with no problem using living bait.
have mk8 use it for everything 5yr warranty free service everytime year i have it cleaned super powerful super smooth this is a 5star reel
