Probably the most highly anticipated new spinning reel by Penn in a decade, the Penn Clash CLA6000 Spinning Reel definitely lived up to the hype here in the Northeastern surf community. A ridiculously smooth reel, the CLA6000 utilizes the brand new CNC machined brass gearing technology and 8 fully sealed ball bearings to achieve an insane level of smoothness – a level that Penn’s never seen before! Anglers love the CLA6000’s double use – well matched to either a 10 foot M/MH surf rod or a 7 foot H/XH boat rod, the CLA6000 has more than enough torque to handle the biggest stripers that will stalk shorelines in search of dinner. It’s an excellent snag-and-drop reel for those anglers who choose to hit the water on a boat, and anglers down south will find this reel fully capable of tackling large tarpon, redfish, black drum and other large inshore predators. Offshore, the CLA6000 is a worthy adversary to any medium sized pelagic species including blackfin, albacore, dorado, amberjack, king mackerel, and even some smaller wahoo. The large EVA power knob paired with a tough 5.6:1 gear ratio translates to incredible cranking power which saves shoulders and backs. The Penn Clash CLA6000 Spinning Reel comes with rugged HT-100 drag washers that’ll put 25# of pressure on anything trying to break you, as well as a machine and anodized braid ready spool that’ll handle up to 330 yards of 50# braid when professionally spooled.

I have had the 3000 for a few weeks now and I love it so far. The HT-100 drag system is a proven system that leaves little to be desired. The reel is very smooth and I have no problems in that department. I actually so far have no complaints. I wish it was made in the USA but not much can be done about that. Cast and line lay seem perfect off this reel, already love it much more than my Spinfisher V series. I liked it enough I ordered another in the 4000 size.
One of the lightest and smoothest spinning reels I've ever owned. I've been a Penn guy for 25 years and they really hit a home-run with this design. Excellent reel!
I purchased the CL5000 late last year so I've only used a few times but I really love it so far. Very smooth and very well built. I did make one mistake when I purchased it. I purchased it from Penn directly. Not a good idea. It took three weeks to be delivered and the price was higher than J&H tackle. I won't make that mistake again. Stupid Hurts!
