The Penn Clash CLA8000 Spinning Reel doesn’t leave anything to chance – the most drag pressure (30# thanks to tough HT-100 drag washers), the biggest line capacity (machined and anodized braid ready spool holds 400 yards of 65# spectra) and the most powerful crank (4.7:1 ratio). This thing is a serious fish-slaying machine. Designed for the toughest of the tough, the CLA8000 features Penn’s brand new CNC machined brass gearing technology and 9 fully sealed ball bearings giving you an incredibly smooth retrieve, especially when cranking down on large pelagic species. Many big boy gamefish are well within reach of the CLA8000, including tuna up to the 200# range, white marlin, wahoo, trophy dorado, sails, amberjack, and more! A big plus – anglers targeting sharks from the shore will find this reel more than capable when matched on an 11 foot H/XH surf stick. That being said, most of the CLA8000’s usage will be from the boat, and it’ll be perfectly matched on either a big popping stick, or short powerful jigging rod, both in the XH/XXH range. The Penn Clash CLA8000 Spinning Reel is by far the most powerful spinning reel with a pedestrian price on the market today.

I have had the 3000 for a few weeks now and I love it so far. The HT-100 drag system is a proven system that leaves little to be desired. The reel is very smooth and I have no problems in that department. I actually so far have no complaints. I wish it was made in the USA but not much can be done about that. Cast and line lay seem perfect off this reel, already love it much more than my Spinfisher V series. I liked it enough I ordered another in the 4000 size.
One of the lightest and smoothest spinning reels I've ever owned. I've been a Penn guy for 25 years and they really hit a home-run with this design. Excellent reel!
I purchased the CL5000 late last year so I've only used a few times but I really love it so far. Very smooth and very well built. I did make one mistake when I purchased it. I purchased it from Penn directly. Not a good idea. It took three weeks to be delivered and the price was higher than J&H tackle. I won't make that mistake again. Stupid Hurts!
