The Shimano Calcutta D CT400D Round Baitcasting Reel should be enshrined as one of the best baitcasting reels ever produced. It’s got the power to tackle large inshore predators – big bass, redfish, snook, bluefish, bonito, false albacore, kelp bass, and even grouper. Still, the CT400D weighs only 11.8 ounces so you can use it all day without fatigue, even when bucktailing for fluke – a tedious activity even for the most seasoned anglers. You can use the CT400D in the ocean or bay, or in freshwater for big pike and walleye. Thanks to a Dartainium drag system, the CT400D puts out 15# drag at a very smooth clip that won’t hesitate at the wrong time. The CT400D utilizes some of Shimano’s best technological advancements – the X-Ship system that places 2 anti rust bearings strategically at the end of the pinion gear for incredible gear mesh and torque, and the brand new “S” Compact Body design that uses a one piece cold forged aluminum frame to reduce the necessary size of the reel. It fits perfectly in the palm of your hand, and when matched with an equally nimble medium heavy fast action baitcasting rod, the resulting setup could be best described as a fish ninja. The Shimano Calcutta D CT400D is made in Japan, and its braid ready spool will comfortably fit 300 yards of 40# spectra, and you can probably squeeze out close to 300 yards of 50 if you really burn it on.

This is a very nice reel. Round reels are difficult for me to use with my arthritic hand, but this one is not too bad. It is a pain to adjust the centrifugal brake control.
