The Shimano Sustain FG SA5000FG Spinning Reel starts to blur the line between big and small game – more than capable of beasting large, nasty inshore saltwater predators as well as some smaller pelagic species, but is purposefully built to target big pike, salmon, and smaller muskies. With 24# of smooth waterproof drag, the SA5000FG can definitely put the brakes on mid-sized mahi, schoolie tuna (up to 20# or so) and, more applicably, powerful inshore species like cow bass and bull redfish. The SA5000FG is a lightweight warrior, thanks in part to the state-of-the-art Magnumlite CI4 rotor – you’ll be able to comfortably fish this reel for hours with minimal fatigue. I can’t stress enough the technological prowess of this reel, as it comes with many standard features other manufacturers drool over – including among others, Shimano’s patented X-Ship system which places a ball bearing at either end of the pinion gear keeping everything firmly in place even during heated battle. There are 8 shielded A-RB ball bearings placed throughout this reel, and adding to the overall smoothness of the reel are the proprietary Hagane gears which are digitally drawn up and 3D printed to avoid any minute flaws. The result is a seamlessly fluid reel which is an absolute dream to crank! The Shimano Sustain SA5000FG comes ready for war with a CF Cold Forged aluminum spool that’s braid ready, and can easily accommodate 200 yards of standard 30# spectra.
