The Shimano Talica TAC12 Single-Speed Lever Drag Reel re-writes the book on how much power a small reel can put out. While the TAC12 isn’t microscopic, it still weighs in at a paltry 23 ounces and puts out a whopping 40# drag thanks to oversized carbon drag washers. With a drag setting this diesel, you can feel free to target tuna in the 30-50# range with ease, as well as midsized pelagics like wahoo, sailfish, and dorado. Best utilized as a high speed vertical jigging reel, the TAC12 uses High Efficiency Gearing to smoothly deliver a 5.7:1 gear ratio – perfect for ripping butterfly jigs up through the water column. Made in Japan using cold forged and machined aluminum, the TAC12 is incredibly rigid and will withstand the lateral torque that a hefty tuna can put on a reel while cranking down on it. The TAC12 has 8 S-ARB ball bearings strategically placed throughout the body of the reel that adds to the overall performance, and ensures that your TAC12 will be factory smooth even after years of use. As far as line capacity, the TAC12 can fit 400 yards of 65# standard braid, but more if you choose an ultra thin option like Samurai braid.
