The Shimano Tekota TEK300 Levelwind Reel is a hybrid-style saltwater star drag reel that’s half baitcaster, half conventional workhorse. Used primarily for bay fluke fishing here in the Northeast, you can also use your TEK300 for light striper fishing, as well as throwing baits at weakfish and seatrout. The TEK300 puts out 12# drag, utilizing a Dartainium Drag washer, and will hold 255 yards of 30# braid on its saltwater approved aluminum spool. The TEK300 can be used for light jigging applications, but is best utilized for bottom fishing techniques as its powerful 4.3:1 gear ratio is better suited for cranking down on stubborn bottomfish. The TEK300 is unique in the sense that it’s the only Tekota to sport a dexterous Double Paddle Handle, but you can swap it out for the standard power handle if you wish. The Shimano Tekota TEK300 Star Drag Reel has an aluminum frame and sideplate, so it’s built to handle the rigors of saltwater fishing, and will stay solid after years of continuous use.
