The Shimano Tiagra TI130WA 2-Speed Lever Drag Reel is the biggest, meanest, strongest, most powerful, heaviest, and most awe inspiring reel that Shimano makes, and is one of the three strongest reels on the market, period. For perspective, a Honda Civic puts out just about 100#/sq.ft torque – the TI130WA has 99# of drag. You read that right. This means that the Shimano Tiagra A 130WA can literally stop a car in its tracks. This translates into very bad news if you’re a tuna – this reel will make Bluefin all up and down the coast wish their fathers had never met their mothers (yes that’s a Jaws reference, as this reel can also be used to target Great White sharks, where legal). Used primarily as a commercial giant Bluefin reel, the TI130WA is built in Japan with ultra-strong cold forged aluminum for the body and sideplates making this reel just about bulletproof. I actually wonder what would happen if you shot this reel with a .308 – probably nothing, but I’m not willing to wager the $1,200 plus retail price. A great thing about this reel is that after purchase, it will last you a lifetime with minimal upkeep – just a yearly clean and service and your TI130A should continue to be a giant slayer for years to come. As far as line capacity, oh you know just 2 kilometers of 250# braid, nothing special (HA!) – most professional anglers will probably go with 1,000 yards hollowcore braid backing with plenty of 400# mono topshot for the needed stretch. The Shimano Tiagra A TI130WA Two Speed Lever Drag Reel has two gears, both equally effective for winching: 2.2:1 high and a 1.15:1 low which is essentially you versus the fish – man up sucka!
