The Shimano Tiagra A TI20A Two-Speed Lever Drag Reel is sort of the red-headed step child in the Tiagra Family. It’s not sure whether it’s a true offshore reel or a light trolling reel, but that makes it deadly in terms of its overall versatility. Use the same reel for trolling up wahoo in the morning, then hook up a circle hook and start chunking mid-range yellowfin in the afternoon. With 36# drag the TI20A is more than capable of stopping even 100# tuna, however it’s mostly used while trolling ‘hoos and sails. Because the TI20A is relatively light for an offshore reel (49 ounces) you can use it for pretty rigorous jigging techniques without too much fatigue. Think about using your TI20A while bottom fishing as well – this reel is responsible for large grouper catches all over the world, and I’ve personally landed a big ‘ol cubera snapper using a TI20A. This is a two speed reel, so you can effortlessly switch between the quicker 3.9:1 high gear to the torqey 1.7:1 low for incredible cranking power. Trust me it made that Cubera come up right quick. Made in Japan, the TI20A is constructed using machined aluminum everything which makes the reel essentially bulletproof – a must for serious charter captains everywhere. The cold-forged aluminum spool is capable of holding well over 500 yards of 80# braid, putting even large tuna and sharks in your sights. The Shimano Tiagra A TI20A Two Speed Lever Drag Reel lets you pull in 41 inches of line per crank, which is the most in the series.
