The Penn Squall SQL16VS Lever Drag 2-Speed Reel is the first in a series of graphite bodied offshore reels that Penn has released to compete with other companies in a competitive market. At first glance, it simply looks like a black International, but the SQL16VS is as different as it is similar. Featuring the QuickShift 2 speed mechanism that Penn has made so popular, the SQL16VS transitions smoothly in and out of gear. Using Penn’s DuraDrag lever drag system, with clickable preset, the SQL16VS pumps out 26# drag, and will hold over 500 yards of 30# mono or 865 yards of 65# braid. Most people will use this reel for light sharking, trolling for schoolie tuna, or deep drop bottom fishing for tilefish or grouper. With a graphite body, the SQL16VS is much lighter than its International cousin, but will do much of the same quality fishing. The Penn Squall SQL16VS features a new “V” shaped reinforced frame style that was designed to distribute pressure evenly throughout the frame of the reel and can handle extreme stress.
