It was a bit of a surprise to see the new Shimano 2021 Twin Power XD Spinning Reels. I was under the impression that the XD had been replaced by the Twin Power FD, which is a phenomenal series of reels. For some reason Shimano could just not let go of the XD. Now that I have the reel in my hand, I'm glad they didn't. Sure it is very similar to the FD, but there are some changes that anglers who are looking for a super refined spinning reel will be interested in. The Twin Power XD is constructed of aluminum with a CI4+ sideplate and an MGL Rotor that cuts a lot of weight out of the top of the reel, creating less resistance during startup. If this was a car race, it would be the equivalent of getting off the starting line faster than the competition. The aluminum long stroke spool will help you cast further, which is always a bonus. MicroModule II gearing, eleven ball bearings and the latest in Shimano's drivetrain upgrades makes this reel incredibly smooth and fun to fish! Turning the handle is a pleasure and you are really going to enjoy this reel for a very long time! The Cross Carbon drag system puts out 20-24 lbs of drag (depending on the model). That is more drag than you are ever going to need but you'll be glad you have it in case you hook into anything that's really angry. The aluminum handle features an EVA power knob or power ball knob, depending on the size. If you are looking for a top of the line inshore spinning reel or a dominating freshwater reel, this is it. Buy a Shimano 2021 Twin Power XD Spinning Reel. You'll be glad you did!
